This week splits into three.
The front half (Mon–Tue) is hot and sticky. Monday hits 87°F, and with the humidity the heat index — what the air actually feels like once you factor in moisture — runs several degrees higher. There's a Heat Advisory up right now, and it's the humidity, not the raw number, doing it.
The middle (Wed) is wet. Wednesday clouds over with a 50% shot at evening thunderstorms. If you're carrying one umbrella this week, carry it Wednesday. (Stargazers: Wednesday night is the Perseid meteor-shower peak, and the clouds are going to fight you for it.)
The back half (Thu–Sat) cools off — highs easing to the low 80s, and the nights are the real gift: down to 67°F by Friday. The best walking days in the city this week are Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
🧭 Weekend-trip note (Hudson Valley): If you're pairing the city with an upstate weekend, the timing lines up beautifully. The valley runs a few degrees cooler, and Fri–Sat are dry and clear — prime for Cold Spring, Beacon, or a Storm King walk. Mornings will feel almost autumn-crisp by Saturday.
Coach's notes
- Mon–Tue: water and shade on repeat. Light, breathable clothes, sunscreen, and keep midday plans short.
- Mon evening & Wed: pack a folding umbrella.
- Thu–Sat: this is the week's window. Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, a picnic — stack the outdoor plans here.
Visiting? Put the indoor stuff (museums, shopping) in the hot, sticky front of the week and the outdoor stuff in the cool back half, and you'll have played this week exactly right.
